SINGAPORE — Graduates of the National University of Singapore (NUS) can now sign up to take additional modules for free at their alma mater, as part of a lifelong learning initiative started by the university.
In a media release on Monday (May 8), NUS said it would be offering its alumni up to 140 free modules across eight faculties this year. The majority of the courses on offer are at the post-graduate levels, although there are undergraduate modules available.
The period free modules will span from August 2017 to July 2018. For two years after July 2018, NUS will continue to waive course fees (which range from S$3,000 to S$3,500 per module) to its alumni, but a Student Services Fee of S$261.85 per semester will then kick in.
Alumni who want to enrol for the modules will be studying alongside current NUS students during regular term time. Priority for the modules will still be given to current NUS students, with no more than 10 per cent of each class comprising alumni.
The course catalogue is now available online at http://scale.nus.edu.sg/programmes/AlumniLifelongLearning.html. Applications are on a first-come, first-served basis and will close at the end of this month.
NUS says they currently have around 278,000 alumni. “We are excited to welcome our alumni back to school, as we continue our efforts to support the national SkillsFuture movement, and make lifelong learning a critical part of our DNA,” said Professor Tan Eng Chye, NUS Deputy President (Academic Affairs) and Provost.
“With the rapidly changing world, our graduates have to learn and adapt as they develop their careers, and in tandem with that, our mental construct of a university education has to change,” he added, saying that NUS hopes to provide new and progressive courses and programmes “to continually enhance the capabilities and competencies of our students and graduates”.
“Our initiative is an encouragement for our alumni, new and old, to start adopting this lifelong learning mindset,” Prof Tan said.

好想再学个别的专业的课程,不过对于上班人士,课程的时间安排是个硬伤除非赋闲在家或者公司允许,不然怎么可能工作时间跑来上课。
